Her name is Taylor Townsend. She’s from Chicago and is only 18 years old. She is a professional tennis player currently playing in the second round of the French Open, one of the four Grand Slams. Not only is tennis a white dominated sport, but it’s a sport that considers it’s average players to be petite and slim.”Last year, the United States Tennis Association wanted to keep her out of the tournament (the junior US Open) because it believed her physical conditioning was lacking, even though she was the top-ranked junior girl in the world. She entered the tournament anyway and reached the quarterfinals.” Taylor is proving them all wrong, and is on the road to win the second round of her first French Open!

YAAAAASSSS!!!!

🙌🙌🙌

My only question is about her relationship status.

Teen scientist harnesses sun power to help Navajo community
New Mexico teen Raquel Redshirt uses everyday materials and the sun to build solar ovens, fulfilling a Navajo community need and winning an award at the Intel ISEF competition.
Growing up on New Mexico’s Navajo Nation, Raquel Redshirt was well aware of the needs of her community. Many of her impoverished neighbors lacked basics such as electricity, as well as stoves and ovens to cook food.
Though resources in the high desert are limited, Raquel realized one was inexhaustible: the sun. “That’s where I got the idea of building a solar oven,” the teen says.
She researched solar ovens and found that most incorporate mirrors or other expensive materials. Raquel wanted to create a design that anyone could easily afford and replicate, using readily available materials.

An important watch. When we function under colonially constructed words, such as “rights”, a words made up as a result of the injustices created by colonialism and imperialism, our fight and our struggles becomes cyclical. Moving towards “responsibility” implies collective actions towards solidarity that we all need to take with one another and with our ancestors in order to move towards sweet, sweet liberation.

brilliant video. watch with subtitles here.

The World is Not Your Fucking Oyster

thedappledsky:

  • Other people’s cultures do not exist for white people to seek their spiritual enlightenment
  • No one owes you an education, and initiation, or a history lesson simply because ‘you want’
  • No one has to include you in things because ‘you want’
  • No one has to hold their tongue, sweeten their words, or chop up sentences to make white people feel better about history- colonization, slavery, genocide, ect.
  • No one should be ‘grateful’ to you for your interest in said culture
